Driving a Japanese-market import? Some JDM vehicles (Toyota Alphard, Mitsubishi Delica and similar grey imports) don't provide standard OBD-II live data, so the gauges may not work even though the adapter connects. Quick check before you buy: run any free OBD app in the car — if it shows RPM, RGB OBD will work too. The app also verifies this at registration and warns you before your licence is used.

The 17-character Vehicle Identification Number of the car you'll use the app in. You'll find it at the base of the windscreen (driver's side), on the driver's door jamb sticker, or on your registration papers.

The licence is issued to this VIN: when you register, the app reads the VIN from the car itself — or lets you type it, for cars that don't publish one over OBD — so double-check it matches your vehicle. Changed cars later? The app can deregister and move the licence to your new vehicle.
